An Ode to Tacoma Arts Live Vivid Event
Where else am I going to take photos of Oompa Loompas?
I was so sad to hear that Tacoma Arts Live will be closing their doors this summer. I may have even shed a tear or two. First, the feelings were selfish. Tacoma Arts Live has been a client of mine for ten years. Then I had feelings of sadness for our whole community. The arts are so enriching to our lives, they connect us, and help us have empathy.
My ten year old son recently had an assignment to write a poetry book including an ode. I didn’t know what an ode was until I worked with him on his homework. An ode is a lyric poem that is written in celebration, appreciation, or dedication. I thought an ode, along with photos of course, would be a way to celebrate and say goodbye to Tacoma Arts Live. The poem and photos highlight their annual fundraiser called VIVID. Some of the themes have been Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, steampunk and super heroes.
An Ode to VIVID
Oh, VIVID, where wonder reigns,
Like chocolate rivers and superhero lanes;
Acrobats soar, magicians amaze,
Singers and dancers set the night ablaze.
Guests arrive in dazzling disguise,
A carnival of dreams beneath Tacoma skies;
A city united, hands joined for art,
Honoring Tacoma Arts Live, a treasure in our heart.
