Hedgebrook Equivox Event Photography

Elevating the voices of Women Authors

This past weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to capture an inspiring event called Equivox. Hosted at the stunning Sodo Park, this memorable event was dedicated to supporting Hedgebrook, a nonprofit on Whidbey Island that supports women writers through retreats and classes.

Celebration of Life

This year's fundraiser held emotional significance, as they honored the life of Nancy Nordhoff, one of Hedgebrook visionary founders, who recently passed away at the age of 93. Her legacy continues to shape the future of women’s voices in literature.

Beauty of Nature

Gorgeous centerpieces, featuring lush local greenery and bright daffodils, brought the beauty of nature indoors. On the stage there was a huge cut out of a photo of one of the cottages that offers respite for writers on Whidbey Island.

Brunch in Always a Good Idea

I absolutely loved that the event was a brunch. The sun was shining through the windows, which for those of us in the Pacific Northwest, just delights us! Guests enjoyed mimosas, coffee and baked goods. Brunch is perfect touch of relaxed elegance!

Conversation with Tessa Hulls

One of the highlights was hearing from Tessa Hulls, the author of Feeding Ghosts. Tessa shared the inspiration behind her Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel, which explores the powerful story of three generations.

A Feeling of Community

Surrounded by vibrantly dressed women, all united in their mission to elevate the voices of women writers, I couldn't help but feel the immense power of community. It was a reminder that books can change the world.
